Unplanned Location scouting
Sometimes the most beautiful moments happen when you least expect them.
While out location scouting near home in Norfolk/Suffolk, I came across a quiet, overgrown field bursting with wildflowers. I had my two little ones with me, apples in hand, and no real agenda .. just a walk to breathe, to look, and maybe to gather some inspiration for future shoots.
I hadn’t planned on taking photos that day, but the light was rich and soft, the sky dramatic, and the scene… it was just asking to be captured. So I listened to that inner pull, pulled out my camera, and followed them through the grass.
This session is a little different from my usual work. There’s a softness to it, an earthiness that reflects the direction I feel myself growing as an artist. It’s honest. Intentional. Fine art with heart.
"Do photographers test locations before a shoot?"
Absolutely. At least, I do
Scouting is one of my favourite parts of the process. It’s where the vision begins to form. I walk the land, notice how the light moves through it, how wild or tidy it feels, what mood it carries. Not every location I visit makes the cut. But when one does , like this hidden spot it really does feels like finding treasure.
You can’t always plan for magic, but you can make space for it to happen. That’s why I scout: so that when it’s your turn in front of my lens, everything already feels considered and aligned.
