Why the Gaze That Matters Most is Your Own
For decades, the "boudoir" session has been marketed as a gift. A little black book for a partner; a wedding day cheeky surprise; a Valentine’s token. Nothing wrong with that, but while there is beauty in sharing your light with those you love, there is a far more radical act waiting for you: Doing it for yourself.
At Untamed Muses, we call this a Reclamation Session. Here is why the most important person you will ever pose for is the woman staring back at you in the mirror.
At heart Untamed Muses works with these pillars:
Breaking the Evaluative Gaze
Most of our lives are spent in the "third-person." We are constantly aware of how we appear to the world—to our bosses, our children, our partners. This is what psychologists call self-objectification. We become the observer of our own lives instead of the lead character. (more of this in our pilot podcast)
A self-reclamation session is about breaking that lens. It is a transition from being an object to be looked at, to a subject who feels, breathes, and takes up space.
The Body as a Vessel, Not a Project
We are taught that our bodies are projects to be fixed, tucked, and smoothed. But your body is the vessel that has carried you through every heartbreak, every triumph, and every transition. When you step in front of my lens, we aren't "fixing" anything. We are documenting a masterpiece in its current form baby.
Creating a Permanent Record of Power
Confidence is a fluctuating emotion, but a portrait is a permanent fact. On the days when the world feels loud and your inner critic is louder, these images serve as a visual anchor. They remind you of your fire, your softness, and your undeniable right to exist exactly as you are (One of the reasons I love to print our images, that tangible reminder does wonders).
Reclaiming Your Gaze
This is your love letter to the version of you that survived. The version that is still growing. The version that refuses to shrink.
Whether you are navigating motherhood, menopause, a career shift, or simply a new season of life, you deserve to see yourself through a gaze that is kind, powerful, and entirely your own.
Be seen, not looked at.
